A 24-Fixture LED Stage Lighting Install
at Christian Healthcare Ministries

After More Than Two Decades, CHM's Stage Lighting Got a Complete LED Rebuild

Christian Healthcare Ministries’ event center had reached the point where its stage lighting was working against the room instead of for it. Fixtures dating back decades were failing one at a time, and the high-wattage incandescent units they were running had been quietly overloading the building’s circuits. MediaNet AV designed and delivered a complete LED replacement, anchored by 24 Chauvet Ovation E-160WW fixtures, a ChamSys QuickQ 20 console, and wireless DMX feeding the balcony positions.

This case study walks through how MediaNet AV worked with CHM’s production team to scope, design, and install a system that took the room’s connected load from 480 amps to about 40, retired the electrical hazards building under the old rig, and put control of the entire system within reach of a volunteer operator.

A Smarter Approach to Stage Lighting

The lighting at CHM’s Barberton event center had quietly aged into a liability. Several of the fixtures were over two decades old, some had stopped working entirely, and the high-wattage incandescent units in the rig had pushed parts of the electrical system beyond what they were rated for. On camera, the result was a flat, top-down look on stage, no dedicated backlight, and obvious coverage gaps from one side of the deck to the other.

MediaNet AV designed a clean LED rebuild built around 24 Chauvet Professional Ovation E-160WW fixtures. Sixteen mount on a new custom Light Source MegaBatten that sits eighteen inches below the original front pipe, flattening the angle of light onto faces, with four more positioned overhead for the backlight the room had never had. Two Maverick Storm 2 Profile movers were added at the balcony for color and movement, and a City Theatrical Multiverse wireless DMX system tied the balcony into the main control patch without any new cable runs through the architecture. Everything reports back to a single ChamSys QuickQ 20 touchscreen console.

The new rig pulls roughly 40 amps where the previous system pulled 480, and the electrical hazards that had been building under the old fixtures are gone with it. CHM’s video team can now run a service from named cues on the console, and the stage reads consistently on camera from front to back.

“It was absolutely worth the investment. The quality of our lighting for video has improved immensely, and the system is far safer and more efficient — we’ve taken our total power draw from around 480 amps down to about 40.”
